Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 8, 2005) - The John Brown Golden Eagles overwhelmed a short-handed Arkansas Baptist College team 89-56 Thursday night in Siloam Springs. When the Lady Buffaloes arrived 30 minutes after the scheduled tip-off, they brought just five players with them, but that made no difference. The game started 68 minutes late, and no player on either team fouled out. Kendra McCormick led the Golden Eagles with 18 points. Ashley Wettengel posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Lesli Fanning hit four 3-pointers to score 12 points, and Nancy Pierre added 13.
John Brown (7-3) jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first four minutes of play on three 3-pointers by Fanning and Pierre. A rare trey by Natalie Reid put the Golden Eagles up 25-4 at the 12:21 mark, and they outscored the Lady Buffaloes 16-2 in the final six minutes of the half. A put-back McCormick gave John Brown its largest lead, 62-23, with 17:27 left in the game.
John Brown out-rebounded Arkansas Baptist 55-22 and continued its recent stretch of excellent shooting with a 46.8% field-goal percentage.
Kim Matthews and Nicole Posley led Arkansas Baptist with 20 points apiece, and Channing Gordon added 10.
John Brown hosts Columbia College (Mo.) on Saturday at 2:00.
