JBU’s McCormick Leads Way in Victory
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 9, 2006) — John Brown’s Kendra McCormick scored a career-high 31 points on 12-of-15 shooting to lead the Golden Eagles to a 67-50 Sooner Athletic Conference win over St. Gregory’s (Okla.) Thursday night in Shawnee, Okla. Jordyn West scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, and Alicia Baer and Ashley Wettengel each contributed 6 assists.
John Brown (16-8, 8-4 SAC) opened the game on a 14-4 run through the first eight minutes, but the Lady Cavaliers settled down and began to steadily chip away at the deficit. A basket by Daiana Canaver tied the game at 27 with 0:09 left before halftime.
St. Gregory’s (8-16, 2-10 SAC) briefly took a two-point lead just after halftime, but a 3-pointer by McCormick with 18:16 remaining gave John Brown a 32-31 lead. McCormick and the Golden Eagles never looked back as the senior post from Siloam Springs scored 20 points in the second half.
The Golden Eagles shot 50% from the field, including 6-of-15 (40%) from behind the arc, and 61% from the free-throw line. The Cavaliers shot nearly 46%, but only connected on 1-of-14 attempts from 3-point range.
The win kept John Brown in fourth place in the SAC, two full games ahead of Oklahoma Baptist and one game behind Lubbock Christian. The Golden Eagles visit NAIA Division I 3rd-ranked Oklahoma City on Saturday at 6:00.
