Lubbock Christian Pulls Away in 2nd Half against JBU
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 16, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles stayed close to Lubbock Christian in the first half, but the Lady Chaps pulled away in the second half to eventually win 65-57 Thursday night in Siloam Springs. Ashley Hunter scored 14 points for Lubbock Christian, and Kendra McCormick led John Brown with 12 points. The decision kept Lubbock Christian (16-9, 10-5) ranked third in the Sooner Athletic Conference and kept John Brown (16-10, 8-6) in fourth place.
Lubbock Christian led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but John Brown came back in the latter part of the period, cutting its deficit to 33-32 at halftime. Lesli Fanning hit a quick 3-pointer just sixteen seconds into the second half to give John Brown a brief lead, but Hunter made a pair of free throws for Lubbock Christian to tie the game. Jordan Hampton then scored a basket with 18:02 left to give Lubbock Christian a 37-35 lead, which they never surrendered. The Lady Chaps would eventually build their lead up to 12 twice on baskets by Carolyn Manning and Candace Clenney.
Fanning and Ashley Wettengel both scored 11 points for John Brown, while Manning, Sierra Wilcox, and Casie Legg each scored 10 for Lubbock Christian. The Lady Chaps shot 41.7% (20-for-48) from the field, while the Golden Eagles made 15-of-39 attempts for 38.5%.
