Golden Eagles Lose to Scots

Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 9, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles played their last game before Christmas Saturday and lost it 64-51 to Lyon in Batesville, Ark. Senior Adam Workman led John Brown (8-3) with 14 points, while freshman Jesse Scroggins followed closely with 12. Levi Taylor and Jonathan Donaldson both scored 14 points to lead Lyon in the victory (8-3). Taylor also had 9 rebounds. Neither team shot the ball well as both finished the game shooting 38% from the field. The difference in percentages between the halves was dramatic, however. The Golden Eagles’ shot 50% in the first half but only 27.6% in the second. The Scots, meanwhile improved from 31% to 47.6% between halves. They also held a 36-33 rebounding advantage and outscored John Brown 28-22 in the paint and 19-10 on second-chance points. They stole the ball 11 times while forcing a total of 17 turnovers. John Brown forced 13 Lyon turnovers.

John Brown shot 80% from the free-throw line, and Lyon shot 82.1%, but the fact that the Golden Eagles were 4-for-5 while the Scots were 23-for-28 was the glaring disparity of the game. The Golden Eagles missed their only free-throw attempt of the first half, while Lyon converted 13-of-17.

Unless last Saturday’s cancelled game at Oklahoma Baptist is rescheduled this month, John Brown will not play again until Dec. 30 when the Golden Eagles travel to Conway, Ark., to take on Central Baptist College at 3:00.
