Women’s Basketball Falls in SAC Tournament
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 1, 2007) — The second game of the Sooner Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament featured the number two seed Southern Nazarene up against the number seven seed John Brown. After the first half it looked as though John Brown would put up a fight, but the Crimson Storm took over in the second half ending John Brown’s season with the 67-46 win.
Nancy Pierre’s buzzer beating three pointer before the half would only put John Brown down by nine, 21-30, heading into the locker rooms. Southern Nazarene, however, would open the second half on a 14-9 run and would go on to lead by as many as 26 points at one point before cruising to victory.
Ashley Wettengel led JBU with 10 points and four rebounds while Tejana Elmore had a game high 20 points for Southern Nazarene.
John Brown shot 29 percent (16-55) for the game while SNU managed to hit 38 percent (22-58) of their shots. On the upside, John Brown won the rebounding battle 43-40, but committed 15 turnovers to only six by Southern Nazarene.
The Lady Golden Eagles end a long season of highs and lows with an 8-22 record.
John Brown men’s basketball team will participate in round one action tomorrow as they face the number four seed Northwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. on the campus of Oklahoma Christian. Both teams split during the regular season.
