Golden Eagles suffer tough loss

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 7, 2007) — On day one of the 25th Annual Fall Classic the John Brown University Golden Eagles faced a tough Walsh (Ohio) team looking to remain flawless in their early season. The Golden Eagles fought hard but fell 3-1 in their opening match.

Walsh’s Lamar Skeeter earned the hat trick for the day after scoring all three Walsh goals. His first two goals came in the 23rd and 29th minutes of the match. Jeremy Hess served up the assist in both instances.

This gave Walsh an early 2-0 lead, but JBU would cut the deficit to one point when junior Akeem Grant found freshman forward Juan Iraola in the box for the goal. Iraola would juke his defender and strike the ball past the keeper for the score.

JBU would control the momentum in the second half and would have two goals taken away as a result of off-sides being called. Walsh would take advantage of the Golden Eagle misfortune and Skeeter would seal the deal in the 82nd minute with his third goal coming from Alex Birtcher.

Spencer Watson totaled 12 saves in the losing effort.

John Brown (1-2-0) returns to action on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they take on 13th ranked Hastings (Neb.). Hastings fell 3-0 to 16th ranked Oklahoma City earlier in the day on Friday.
