Women’s Soccer Crushes Wayland Baptist

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 28, 2007) — John Brown women’s soccer team showed why they are ranked number two in the region and 30th in the nation after defeating conference opponent Wayland Baptist 5-1 on the road Friday afternoon. John Brown, who received the rankings earlier this week, got off to a hot start very early in the match. Sarah Kidd got things rolling for JBU in the first minute after scoring unassisted at the 58 second mark. However, things would cool down and this would be the lone goal in the first half. Wayland Baptist, refusing to be shutout at home, would score the equalizer after Maggie Mitchell’s goal in the 50th minute. John Brown would regroup and take over the match from here. Robyn Cluka would set the pace after scoring off the assist from Camille Malkiewicz in the 56th minute. Then in the 70th, Rachel Gerdin would put JBU ahead 3-1 after scoring unassisted. In the 79th minute, Brittany Allen would extend the Lady Golden Eagle lead after scoring unassisted. Two minutes later, Cluka and Malkiewicz would connect again for Cluka’s sixth goal and Malkiewicz’s fifth assist of the season. With the win, John Brown moves to 7-3, 3-0. JBU will return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 6 to face Oklahoma Christian.
