Golden Eagles Open with Win
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 1, 2007) — It is the most anticipated basketball game of the year. The game where fans get to toss toilet paper onto the court after the first John Brown field goal of the night. Cody Page did the honors this season after knocking down a fifteen foot shot that sent over 300 rolls of toilet paper flying through the sky. When it was all said and done John Brown rolled on to a 90-59 win over Hillsdale Freewill Baptist (Okla.) at home on Thursday night.
Page lead all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting including 6-of-9 from downtown. Freshman wingman Andrius Mikutis was the only other Golden Eagle in double figures with 17.
John Brown got off to a slow start in the opening minutes but picked things up jumping out to 46-32 halftime lead.
With 17:05 remaining in the second half, Mikutis penetrated and hit the layup to extend JBU’s lead to 24.
Then at 6:33 Jarrett McGriff would give JBU their largest lead of the night at 82-49. McGriff finished with nine points and six boards.
On the night, JBU shot 49% from the floor including 46% from long range. HBU was held to 31% shooting overall and only 28% from downtown.
John Brown (1-0) returns to action next Monday, Nov. 5th at home against Lyon (Ark.) at 7 p.m
