KLRC Listeners “Pay it Forward”

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 14, 2007) — 101.1 FM KLRC is encouraging listeners to do something a little different to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. The radio station has teamed up with Arvest Bank to spread goodwill throughout Northwest Arkansas by encouraging people to “Pay It Forward” through random acts of kindness. “‘Pay it Forward’ is about encouraging people to look for ways to go above and beyond their normal daily routine to do something kind for another person,” said Mark Michaels, program director and morning show host on 101.1 KLRC. “Sometimes it may be paying for the car behind you in the drive-thru. Other times it’s holding the door for a mom with her arms full. No matter what, it’s about people taking the time to be kind to others. I hope that this turns into a year-round thing, not just something that people do at Thanksgiving.” Beginning the week of November 5, KLRC started asking listeners to go to KLRC.com and let them know how they would “Pay it Forward” if they were given $101. Thanks to Arvest Bank, Nov. 19, 20 and 21, three listeners, each day, will be randomly picked from the online submissions and given $101 to use in their “Pay it Forward” plan. “We have already heard from listeners who didn’t wait to find out if they were going to get the money to start ‘paying it forward’,” said Jen Ryan, promotions director and morning show co-host on 101.1 KLRC. “One school teacher told us about a man who saw her purchasing supplies for her classroom and wanted to pay for the bill. Another listener took care of filling up vehicles with gas and purchasing groceries for a family dealing with a job loss. This is about impacting the community one person at a time. If each of the nine people that we give the $101 paid it forward to three people, and each of those three to three more, after two weeks of continuing to pay it forward 4,782,969 people could be affected by kindness. It is exciting to see that our listeners know that through the encouragement of KLRC and Arvest Bank, they can make a positive difference in the world around them.” The “Pay it Forward” plans chosen to be carried out will be announced during the “KLRC Morning Show” on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Thanksgiving week. Highlights will also be featured on www.KLRC.com. KLRC is owned and operated by John Brown University and located on the Siloam Springs campus of JBU.
