Lady Golden Eagles Outflown by Flying Queens

Plainview, Texas (February 7, 2008) — JBU women’s basketball lost 59-40 to Wayland Baptist (Texas) in Plainview on Thursday night. The loss drops JBU to 7-15 overall, 2-12 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

JBU held a 16-14 lead at the 9:14 mark in the first half before WBU (11-12, 6-9) went on a 15-4 run to close out the half ahead 29-20. In the second half, WBU held its largest lead of the game at 55-33 with 3:20 left in the game before claiming the 19 point win.

Sophomore guard Micaela Cully paced JBU with 12 points, while Vanita Wright led WBU with 20 points.

Turnovers haunted JBU on the night as Wayland Baptist converted 21 JBU turnovers into 20 points. WBU won the battle in the paint scoring 32 points to 18 by JBU. They also out rebounded JBU 42-33.

The Lady Eagles continued to struggle from the floor shooting only 33% (16-49) including 25% (4-16) from beyond the arc.

JBU plays the last of their three game road trip on Saturday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the NAIA’s No. 17 Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian. Game time has been moved to 12 p.m.
