Golden Eagles Lose to OBU
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 1, 2008) — John Brown University men’s basketball closed out the regular season with a 67-62 loss to Oklahoma Baptist. The men finish the regular season at 10-20 overall and 3-19 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OBU held onto a nine point lead late in the second half after leading 35-26 at the break.
However, the Golden Eagles wouldn't be done on the night. With 2:28 remaining in the game, sophomore Davaughn Jackson capped off a 16-6 run after scoring three consecutive buckets to bring JBU within two, 57-59.
OBU (22-8, 14-8) held of the push down the stretch with several key stops and late freethrows to secure the win.
Junior Jarrett McGriff had a huge game for JBU with 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Leading scorer for OBU was Brent Jones with 25.
For the game, JBU shot 48% (22-26) from the floor, while managing to outrebound OBU 25-20. Both teams did a good job taking care of the ball with only 23 combined turnovers.
JBU now awaits the release of the conference tournament bracket, where they will play as the number twelve seed. The bracket will be released on Monday, March 3.
