Joplin, Mo. (September 2, 2008) - The Golden Eagles men’s soccer squad looked good on Tuesday evening earning their first win of the year after defeating NCAA Division II opponent Missouri Southern 2-1 on the road.
Although JBU was out shot 17-12, they still managed to find the back of the goal more often that MSSU.
Sophomore forward Adrian Jasso tallied the first goal for JBU in the 11th minute off the assist from Jamal Bandeh. Ten minutes later, sophomore Juan Iraola continued the trend after scoring unassisted for the 2-0 lead.
JBU managed to hold on to the two-point leading going into the intermission, but the Lions wouldn’t be done on the evening as they fought back notching their first goal in the 60th minute.
JBU, however, held off MSSU as they began to build momentum late in the match to hold on for the win.
“We scratched and clawed and held tough,” said assistant coach Aaron Tucker. “I was really proud of the way the guys represented themselves.”
Senior goalie Spencer Watson also had a big day for JBU, recording five saves on the evening.
Up next, JBU returns home this weekend for the JBU Fall Classic. On Friday, JBU takes on Bethel (Ind.) at 3 p.m. and Hannibal La Grange (Mo.) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
