Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 6, 2008) - The John Brown University women’s soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to NCAA Division I opponent Oral Roberts (Okla.) in non-conference action on Friday night.
The ladies struck first notching the first goal in the 32nd minute off the score from junior Lizzie Nelson via the assist from senior Rachel Gerdin.
ORU came back strong and scored the equalizer three minutes later after Natalya Manyan scored off the rebound from a corner kick.
Less than nine minutes later, Manyan posted her second goal of the game to give ORU the 2-1 advantage just before halftime.
ORU managed to hold JBU scoreless in the second half, and increased their lead after Kaycie Porter scored unassisted in the 70th minute to seal the victory.
Although facing a bigger named opponent, JBU managed to keep on pace with ORU getting off 17 shots to ORU’s 18. Both teams had seven shots on goal.
Senior keeper Megan Rouse picked up four saves, while ORU’s keeper Amanda Wheeler earned six.
Up next, JBU travels to face Abilene Christian (Texas) next Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
