Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 30, 2008) - It’s been almost a month since the John Brown University women’s volleyball team opened the season on the road. And with sixteen games already under their belt, the women were happy to return home to a welcoming crowd in Murray Sells as they picked up their first conference win of the year defeating Oklahoma Baptist 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20).
“It felt great to get this first conference win,” said head coach Robyn Daugherty. “And we couldn’t have done it without the great fan support out here tonight.”
JBU (9-8, 1-2) had powerful performances all around including hitting .259 as a team. Individually, sophomore Amber Wilson led the team with 16 kills while hitting .500, and junior Christi Newton totaled 11 kills while hitting .450.
Sophomore Alyssa Hanson picked up 22 assists to go along with three aces, and junior Britney Kerns earned 21 assists.
Defensively, junior libero Shannon Proctor led the way gathering 25 digs with senior Emily Goodlin backing her up with 19. And in the block column, Newton had several key stops to lead the way with six blocks. JBU returns to conference action at home on Thursday against St. Gregory’s (Okla.) at 7 p.m.
