Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Lady Drovers

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 1, 2008) — The game looked headed to overtime on Wednesday afternoon, but in the end, the John Brown University women’s soccer team managed to score late in the match to give JBU (6-3) the 1-0 shutout over conference foe Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

It was junior Mikey Brannan’s goal in the 87th minute via a deep cross from sophomore Camille Malkiewicz that gave the ladies the win to move them to 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Although the score was deadlocked for almost the entire game, JBU maintained control of possession for nearly the entire match.

“It was obvious we were in control,” said head coach Joe Thoma. “We just had to relax and play. When we don’t we make it harder.” As a team, the ladies outshot USAO (3-3-2) 20-8 with a 7-2 shot on goal differential. Senior keeper Megan Rouse picked up two saves in the win.

Up next the ladies travel to Edmond, Okla. for another conference matchup against Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m. Oklahoma Christian is currently 4-3-1.
