Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 6, 2008) - The John Brown University women’s volleyball squad defeated Southern Nazarene (Okla.) 3-0 on Thursday night at the Sawyer Center. The win moves JBU to 20-9 on the season, and 10-3 in conference play.
JBU started off with a slight lead over the Storm, but SNU stayed in the game. After going up by five, the Golden Eagles extended their lead and took the 25-7 win.
It was close in game two before SNU took the lead from JBU. The Storm held their five-point lead, but the Golden Eagles threatened, coming within three before they tied it up at 22. JBU got the next three points to get the 25-22 win in game two. In game three, SNU took an early lead, but the Golden Eagles quickly tied it up. The Storm came back, going up by four. John Brown tied it up at nine before taking a one-point lead. SNU went down by five and couldn't get back in the game before JBU took the third game 25-17. Individually, sophomore Kirsten Lee led the team with 14 kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Alyssa Hanson picked up 17 assists followed by junior Britney Kerns with 14. On the defensive end, junior libero Shannon Proctor added 13 digs to her total on the year, and Laurae Marty posted three blocks.
The women close out the regular season next Monday when the head to Oklahoma City to face Mid America Christian at 7 p.m.
