Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 6, 2008) - Things didn’t go as planned for the Lady Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon as they lost, 47-71, to the NAIA’s 12th ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) Lady Chaps on Saturday afternoon.
JBU (7-3, 1-2) fell behind early, allowing LCU (9-0, 3-0) to jump out to a 12 point, 16-4, lead midway through the first half. JBU tried to close the gap before the break but LCU extended their lead to 14, 27-13 before heading into the locker rooms.
In the second half, Ashley Coggins helped LCU extend their lead to 25, 42-17, after burying a trey. On the next few possessions, JBU gained some momentum and made a 13-4 run sparked by a Claire Harrison (Choctaw, Okla.) three pointer helping bring JBU within 16, 30-46, with 9:13 left in the game. Harrison finished with four points.
After Ashley Taylor (Bergman, Ark.) brought JBU within 15, 34-49, by hitting a pair of free-throws a minute later, things slowly went downhill for the Lady Golden Eagles the rest of the way. That’s as close as it would get. Taylor finished with a team high 16 points for JBU, who only shot 37.5 percent (18-48) as a team, including a dismal 17.6 percent (3-17) from three-point range, and 53.3 percent (8-15) from the charity stripe.
For LCU, Coggins led the way with 16 points followed by Sierra Lovorn with 12 points and five assists. As a team, LCU shot 55.3 percent (26-47).
JBU will take a break from conference play when they head to Columbia (Mo.) on Tuesday. Last season, JBU defeated CC 77-68 at home. Game time is 7 p.m.
