JBU Announces Addition of Communication Degree

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 21, 2009) — John Brown University is pleased to announce the addition of a Bachelor of Arts in Communication beginning fall 2009. JBU’s degree in communication will include courses in Communication Theory, Visual Communication, Rhetorical Theory, Argumentation and Debate, and Mediated Communication. The communication major will be theory based in order to prepare students for the variety of fields they may choose to enter after graduation. “It is exciting that JBU is going to be able to offer this new major,” said Jason Hough, assistant professor of communication. “The communication degree is important as an academic discipline, because it is widely supported and funded at other universities.” Hough, who was responsible for preparation and proposal for the new major, said that according to his research about 75 percent of all colleges and universities already offer this degree or a similar one, illustrating the importance and popularity of the field. He expects that the new major will bring more students to JBU. Those interested in learning more about the details of the communication degree at JBU can call 877-JBU-INFO.
