Plainview, Texas (January 31, 2009) — The Lady Golden Eagles got off to a hot start against Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Saturday afternoon, but turnovers would haunt the ladies down the stretch as they gave up the 57-68 decision to the Flying Queens. The loss drops JBU to 10-12 overall and 4-10 in the SAC.

Ashley Taylor tallied 22 points and six caroms to lead JBU. Micaela Cully added 12.

Shelby Conrad was top scorer for WBU (14-7, 8-5) with 14 points.

JBU took an early 13-4 lead in the opening minutes but allowed WBU to climb their way back into it and come within four, 20-24, with 2:00 minutes left in the half. But JBU was able to hang tough and pull away to get an eight point 30-22 cushion before break.

The Lady Golden Eagles continued to score easy basket early in the second stanza and held onto a 36-25 lead with 17:40 remaining in the game. Then the wheels slowly came off as turnovers crept up on the ladies.

Over the next four minutes, the Flying Queens would go on a 17-0 run to take a 42-36 lead with 13:25 remaining. JBU would never regroup from this point and eventually fell behind by as many as 14 points before dropping the 11 point decision.

JBU shot 40% (20-of-50) for the game but committed 32 turnovers which lead to 27 Wayland Baptist points.

Overall WBU, hit 36% (22-of-62) of their attempts including 29% (6-of-21) from three point territory.

Up next, the women return home to face Northwestern Okla. State on Thursday at 6 p.m.
