Norwood Selected as Next Dean of Undergraduate Studies
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 31, 2009) — John Brown University is pleased to announce the selection of Rob Norwood as the next Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Norwood will begin July 1, 2009, and will be replacing Rick Ostrander who has accepted the position of Provost at Cornerstone University (Mich.). Norwood is taking on the role of dean after serving JBU in a variety of capacities: He is currently associate professor and division chair of engineering. He also serves as the director of assessment, and he served as the chair of the Core Curriculum Committee during the university’s last major curriculum revision in 2003. “Rob brings to this job a wealth of experience at JBU,” said Ed Ericson, vice president of academic affairs. “In many ways, Rob has already done a lot of the work required of a chief academic officer. He has had to make tough administrative decisions in his career; he is one of the three or four people I go to for advice when I most need it.” Norwood earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from Stanford University and has served in the engineering division at JBU for eleven years. Larry Bland, associate professor of engineering, will replace Norwood as the chair of the Division of Engineering and Construction Management with help from associate professor Kevin Macfarlan.
