Men’s soccer ranked seventh in SAC preseason poll

Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 20, 2009) — The John Brown University men’s soccer team earned 33 points giving them the seventh spot on the Sooner Athletic Conference’s preseason coaches’ poll released on Thursday.

Oklahoma City University’s Stars received nine first-place votes and had a perfect poll score of 81 to take the top spot. The Stars were 7-0-1 last season in the SAC and 20-3-1 overall, reaching the NAIA semifinals.

Southern Nazarene (Okla.) is ranked second in the poll with the remaining first-place vote and 70 points. SNU also reached the national tournament last season and ended the year with a 14-5-1 record.

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma is ranked third with 64 points, followed by Oklahoma Baptist at 60, Oklahoma Christian with 45, Rogers State with 44, John Brown at 33, Mid-America Christian at 22, St.Gregory’s with 21 and first-year Wayland Baptist with nine.

Coaches were not permitted to rank their own team.
