Men Upend Ozarks in Scrimmage

Siloam Springs, Ark. (August 21, 2009) — A late goal in the 89th minute gave the John Brown University men's soccer team a 2-1 win over University of the Ozarks (Ark.) on Friday evening in scrimmage action.

JBU put the first point on the board after Gabriel Duarte put away the assist from Austin Toppins in the 39th minute.

The score stood 1-0 in favor of JBU at the half.

In the second stanza, Ozarks scored the equalizer in the 64th.

After several missed opportunities late in the half, JBU had one final attempt in the 89th when Ross Collins' free kick attempt ricocheted off the opposition for an own goal.

Head coach John Miglarese said that he was pleased with his team's performance but knows they can still do better.

"When we attacked and made good passes we gave ourselves good chances out there," said Miglarese. "But we were ugly on the restarts and have some work to do before our other scrimmage."

JBU faces Crowder (Mo.) on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. on Alumni Field.
