Netters sweep competition in Ozarks Tourney

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 8, 2009) — The John Brown University women’s volleyball team moved to 5-0 on the year after dominating their opponents over the weekend in the College of the Ozarks Tournament in Branson, Mo.

In their first match last Friday, JBU cruised by Harris Stowe (Mo.) 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-5) before being pushed to the limit by Williams Woods (Mo.) later that evening. The Golden Eagles walked away with a 3-2 (25-17, 25-27, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13) win after being led by freshman Erin Didier with 20 kills.

On Saturday, the women continued their dominance by putting away Bethany (Kan.) in three (25-11, 25-19, 25-17) and closed out the perfect weekend also defeating Park (Mo.) in three (25-14, 25-16, 25-13).

For the entire weekend, Didier led the team with 43 kills followed by junior Kirsten Lee with 40. Junior Alyssa Hanson totaled 67 assists and senior Britney Kerns had 66.

Defensively, junior Amber Wilson and senior Christi Newton picked up 11 and seven blocks respectively. And senior libero Shannon Proctor collected 81 digs.

Proctor and Hanson also had nine service aces with Kerns and Didier adding eight a piece.

Up next, the women return home on Wednesday, Sept. 9 to face Lyon (Ark.) at 7 p.m.
