Women's soccer blanks Northwood

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 19, 2009) — After spending the past couple weeks on the road, the JBU women's soccer team was happy to see Alumni Field again as they beat Northwood (Texas) 2-0 on a muggy Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Jodi Knack started the scoring for JBU in the 16th minute after junior Alex McMichael banged a shot off the post. After retaining possession, freshman Cheyenne Padgett crossed it to Knack who headed it in for the 1-0 advantage.

The second half was much like the first as both teams had their chances early on but couldn't come up with a goal. But in the 72nd junior Sarah Kidd found herself free in front of the net after a scramble in the box and banged it in for a 2-0 JBU lead. JBU would never look back after that.

After playing their last three games on the road, head coach Joe Thoma was excited to be back home and felt like his players played better because of it.

“Here the comfort level comes back. You get your own bed and get your rest,” said Thoma. “It’s going to be nice to be home for a couple weeks.”

Goalkeepers freshman Faith Thurman and junior keeper Brittany Henderson combined for two saves in the shutout, while Ashley Ford had six saves in the loss for Northwood (2-4). JBU moves to 2-3 on the season and will travel to Northeastern State (Okla.) for a 3 p.m. tilt on Tuesday afternoon.
