Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 14, 2009) - The JBU women’s soccer team came away with a 2-1 win over Rogers State (Okla.) on Wednesday afternoon after nearly going the distance. The win propels JBU to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the SAC.
JBU peppered the nets against RSU outshooting them 32-10 with a 13-4 shots on goal advantage.
However, RSU managed to do more with less after scoring the first goal of the day in the 32nd minute when Tiffany Roberts took the slot from Lauren Hager in the box to go ahead by one.
In the second half, JBU came out strong after finding themselves in a hole. In the 48th, Camille Malkiewicz set up Amanda Reed for the equalizer.
JBU continued to control time of possession, but was off the mark throughout the remainder of the half as regulation expired with the score deadlocked at 1-1.
In the first overtime period, JBU took a 3-1 shots advantage, but both teams came up empty forcing a final period.
JBU had a scare in the second overtime after RSU’s Lauren Hager had a shot ricochet of the post. But the golden goal came in the 114th after Jodi Knack broke free in the box and blasted a shot by RSU’s Lynn Bailey for the 2-1 win.
Bailey had 11 saves for RSU, and Faith Thurman picked up the win for JBU after turning away three.
Up next, JBU returns to Alumni Field to take on Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 1 p.m.
