Volleyball thumps Wayland Baptist

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 31, 2009) — The JBU women’s volleyball team cruised by the second ranked team in the conference, Wayland Baptist (Texas), on Saturday afternoon by defeating them in three sets 25-19, 25-21, 25-18. The win moves the ladies to 22-9 overall and tied for fourth in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 6-5 record.

Erin Didier paced JBU with 17 kills followed by Christi Newton with 12. Britney Kerns had 23 assists while Alyssa Hanson picked up 14.

On the defensive end, Shannon Proctor collected 16 digs and Sarah Jordan had 11. Allie Rankin had four blocks.

For WBU (19-5, 7-4), Jennifer Wyatt had 11 kills, while Anika Voigt dished out 19 assists.

As a team, JBU had a hitting percentage of .231 % compared to only .099% from WBU.

With only three conference matches remaining, the ladies hope to move up in the conference standings and get a better seed heading into the conference tournament. For their final three matches, the women return home to take on Oklahoma City on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and then travel to Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Thursday for a 7 p.m. match. They close out the regular season at home on Monday, Nov. 9 against Mid America Christian (Okla.) at 7 p.m.
