Men throw balanced attack at RSU
Claremore, Okla. (December 10, 2009) — Four JBU players finished in double digits helping the JBU men hand Rogers State (Okla.) their worst home loss ever after pulling off the 85-67 win at the Claremore Expo on Thursday night. With the win, JBU improves to 10-1 overall and 3-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Leading the way for a second straight game was junior Andrius Mikutis, who finished with 21 points and seven boards after going 6-for-11 on the night. Junior Sam Bartlett added 18 points and eight boards. Freshman EJ McWoods tossed in 11 points in only his third game suited up, and sophomore Adrian Miller earned the double-double after scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
JBU leading scorer Davaughn Jackson had a slow night offensively, but scored enough to put him into the 1,000 point club after finishing with seven points on the night. He currently sits and 1,003 career points.
RSU (5-4, 0-3) got a game high 27 points and eight rebounds from senior Lance Sullivan.
JBU got off to a slow start and fell behind 17-10 and then went on a 13-0 run to take the 23-17 lead before eventually going into the break ahead three, 37-34.
In the second half, the Eagles stymied the Hillcats attack and opened the half on a 19-4 run. RSU never regrouped from this point and tried to play catch up the rest of the way.
On the night, JBU shot 44.4% (28-63) overall including 35.7% (10-28) from three. RSU, meanwhile, couldn’t find their touch and only buried 35.1% (20-57) of their attempts. JBU dominated the glass, out rebounding the Hillcats 51-32 with 17 coming on the offensive end.
The Golden Eagles close out the semester at home on Saturday when they face Bacone (Okla.) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in non-conference action.
