Men glide by St. Greg's
Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 16, 2010) — The JBU men’s basketball team picked up an easy conference win on Saturday afternoon after defeating St. Gregory’s (Okla.) 88-70 at home.
The win propels the Golden Eagles to 13-5 overall and 5-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Five JBU players finished in double digits on the day. Junior Sam Bartlett led the way with 15 points. Abel Galliguez and Coleson Rakestraw both had 14. Adrian Miller had 12 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, and Andrius Mikutis chipped in with 10 points and seven boards.
Fayzon Richey dropped in 28 points for SGU (5-9, 0-9) after going 10-of-16 from the floor. Ryan Florie added 15.
The Cavaliers fought hard in the first half and managed to keep things tied up at 36 with 3:10 left in the half. JBU, however, closed out the period on a 9-2 run to go ahead by seven, 45-38, before the intermission.
In the second period, SGU pulled within two points, 57-55, after Florie buried a three-pointer with 12:05 left in the game. But that would be as close the Cavs would get. The Golden Eagles responded with a 13-0 run to make it 70-55 with 7:29 remaining. SGU never recovered falling behind by as many as 23 at one point.
JBU shot 53.8 percent (28-52) on the day, while SGU knocked down 41.4 percent (24-58) of their tries. JBU also won the battle of the boards 36-29.
The men return home on Thursday night to take on Science & Arts of Okla. in an 8 p.m. SAC matchup.
