Golden Eagles soar by Drovers
Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 21, 2010) — The JBU men’s basketball team picked up their second win of the year over Science and Arts of Okla. after defeating the Drovers 78-67 in Murray Sells on Thursday night. The men improved to 14-5 overall and 6-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with the win.
Junior Andrius Mikutis led the way off the bench with 18 points and six rebounds. Junior Sam Bartlett and freshman Coleson Rakestraw had 12 each, and sophomore Abel Galliguez tossed in 11.
Fred Savoie had 21 points and four rebounds to lead USAO (4-14, 2-8).
JBU completely dominated every aspect of the game from the tip and never let their lead evaporate. After JBU got ahead by 19 in the second half, USAO had a mini run that allowed them to pull within seven, but they couldn’t get any closer.
For the game, JBU shot 59 percent (27-46) from the floor, which included going 11-of-21 from three point range.
The Drovers canned 42 percent (27-65) of their attempts, but couldn’t hit from long range only connecting on 5-of-23 tries.
Up next, JBU returns home to face No. 6 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Saturday at 8 p.m.
