Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 9, 2010) - The Golden Eagles return to SAC action this week beginning with St. Gregory’s (Okla.) at 8 p.m. in Shawnee. The team then returns home on Saturday to face No. 2 Oklahoma Baptist in Murray Sells on Saturday at 8 p.m.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: JBU enters this week’s contests on a three game winning streak and stand at 17-7 overall and 9-7 in the SAC. Davaughn Jackson, a 6-5 senior forward from Nassau, Bahamas, leads the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 16.1 ppg and 8.2 rpg.
JBU crushed SGU earlier this season 88-70, but came up empty on the road against OBU, 82-76.
The Golden Eagles are ninth in the NAIA in three pointers made (191). Freshman Coleson Rakestraw is 15th in the country with 63 three pointers made. JBU is also ninth in the country in total rebounding margin (7.9).
The Golden Eagles received votes in the latest NAIA national poll. Picked to finish fifth in the SAC’s preseason coaches’ poll, they currently sit six games behind the top spot at number five.
ABOUT THE SGU CAVALIERS: St. Gregory’s currently sits at 6-13 overall and 1-13 in conference play. They are coming off a 1-1 week where they picked up their first conference win of the year against Wayland Baptist. They take on No. 2 Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday night before hosting JBU on Thursday. Fayzon Richey, a 6-3 freshman guard from El Reno, Okla., leads the team in scoring at 16.5 ppg, and Jade Carter averages 5.8 rpg to lead in that column. As a team, the Cavs average 70.2 ppg while giving up 78.8 ppg to their opponents. The Cavs are currently the last team in the SAC standings.
ABOUT THE OBU BISON: The Bison are coming off three wins last week over Oklahoma Christian, Wayland Baptist, and Lubbock Christian. Led by last year’s SAC Newcomer of the Year Nate Brumfield, the Bison are currently ranked second in the NAIA’s Top 25 poll. They hold a 21-1 overall record and 13-1 SAC record. Brumfield, a 6-4 senior forward from Rochester, N.Y. leads the team with 26.6 ppg and 8.3 rpg.
They are ranked number one in the NAIA in team field goal percentage (59%) number three in scoring (91), number two in scoring margin (22.8), and number two in total defensive rebounds (27.9).
The Bison were the SAC coaches’ preseason favorite heading into this season are currently a game behind No. 6 Southern Nazarene in the current conference standings.
