Student Works Exhibit and “ARTIES” Awards Coming to JBU
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 26, 2010) — John Brown University is pleased to announce the annual showcase of student artwork. The exhibit will run Thursday, March 4 through Thursday, April 1 in the Art Gallery with the opening reception and awards ceremony being held on Friday, March 12 from 6:00-7:30 in the gallery. Following this reception will be the annual “ARTIES” awards where students are given awards for the “best of the best” in the Communication and Fine Arts Division. The “ARTIES” will be held at the Siloam Spring Community Center from 8:00-10:00 pm.
Students participating in the Student Works exhibit are from a variety of majors, not just Visual Arts. The six different categories will include Cinema (Best Director), Graphic/Web Design, Photography, Illustration, Digital Art (2D, 3D and motion graphics), and Fine Art. The Student Works show has been a tradition at JBU for over twenty years. There are over 100 pieces of work that have been submitted and the exhibit is always anticipated as a great showcase for student talent.
The ARTIES will give Best of the Year awards for the Visual Arts Department in the following categories: Best Graphic Designer, Best Filmmaker, Best Illustrator, Best Digital Artist, Best Photographer, and Rookie of the Year. The Music Department will hand out awards for Best Dramatist, Best Performer, and Best Worship Leader of the Year. The Communications Department will honor the Best Performer in a Play.
The JBU Art Gallery is located in JBU’s art building on the main campus in Siloam Springs. Normal gallery hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. All gallery exhibits are free and open to the public.
