Cross country competes in Lions Stampede

Sam Young led JBU's men's squad to a 30th place finish on Saturday at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

Joplin, Mo. (September 18, 2010) — The JBU men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Missouri Southern Lions Stampede on Saturday. The men finished 30-of-34 and the women finished 28-of-36.

On the men’s side, Wayland Baptist (Texas) claimed first place, and Tulsa took home first place for the ladies.

Individually for JBU, sophomore Sam Young led the way for the men and finished 189th out of 311 after setting a personal best of 28:53 in the 8K (4.97 miles). For the ladies, freshman Valerie Kliewer finished first for JBU and 126th out of 302 overall after setting a personal best of 20:00 in the 5K (3.1 miles).

Both teams will be off for the next two weeks but look to return to action on Saturday, October 9 when they compete in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
