Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 9, 2010) — Despite a strong offensive effort from senior Ashley Taylor, the JBU women’s basketball team came up empty in their home opener on Tuesday night after falling 49-57 to 24th ranked Evangel (Mo.) in Bill George Arena.

Taylor finished with 18 points and eight boards to lead JBU in scoring. Chelsea Garrison and Anna Parish both had nine. JBU’s leading scorer for the season, Katie Mangels, was held to three points on a 1-for-8 shooting night.

For EU (1-0), three players finished in double digits led by Ashlee Luko with 13. Caitlin Russell added 12, and Kara Blankenship tossed in 10.

After leading 28-26 at the break, JBU fell behind early in the second half, but managed to retake the lead later on. Both teams exchanged leads throughout the half, but with 6:57 left, Luko nailed a three pointer that put Evangel ahead for good.

For the game, JBU struggled knocking down only 29% (16-55) of their shot attempts. Meanwhile, EU hit 38% (19-50) of their attempts.

The ladies return to action on Friday when they play in the College of the Ozarks Classic. JBU takes on St. Francis (Ill.) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and then turn around to take on St. Francis (Ind.) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
