Men pull out a win against RSU
Claremore, Okla. (November 23, 2010) — The JBU men’s basketball team kept their perfect record in tact on Tuesday night after coming from behind to defeat Rogers State (Okla.) 68-62 in Claremore. The Eagles move to 9-0 on the year and are now 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Sam Bartlett led JBU with 18 points and eight rebounds. Coleson Rakestraw had 16 points, and Adrian Miller and Andy Garcia both had 13 with 10 and 12 rebounds respectively.
Matt Kellogg had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead RSU (4-3, 0-1 SAC). John Boyd added 17, and Deveric Taylor had 13.
After going into the locker rooms down by 12, 26-38, JBU came out in the second half and slowly chipped away at the RSU margin. And with 7:41 left in the game, Miller drained a clutch three-pointer to give JBU a 51-50 lead. After trading punches for the next few possessions, RSU’s Kellogg would put the Hillcats ahead 56-53 with 5:42, but a trey from Rakestraw evened things back up at 56 a piece at the 4:10 mark.
The following possession Boyd made the back end of a pair of free-throws attempts to give RSU a one point edge, but JBU’s Miller came back on the other end to give JBU the 58-57 advantage and the lead for good.
JBU shot 45% (27-60) on the night, but struggled from long distance only canning 22% (4-18). RSU, meanwhile, hit 40% (21-52) of their attempts including 35% (8-23) from long range. JBU dominated the glass taking a 40-29 rebounding margin.
