Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 1, 2010) - The 68th annual John Brown University Candlelight Service will once again celebrate the Christmas season with traditional melodies, time-honored classics and inspirational readings on Thursday, Dec. 9, Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11.
This year’s services will feature selections performed by the Cathedral Choir and Chamber Choir, directed by Paul Smith, the Women’s Chorus, directed by Kate Dewey and the Chamber Orchestra, directed by Terri Wubbena.
JBU Artist-in-Residence Donna Rollene will perform a soprano solo, and trumpeter Loree Todd will perform a solo accompanied by Ernest Whitmore on the organ. Jan Helmut Wubbena will provide organ accompaniment and an organ postlude.
Since 1946, the Candlelight Service has helped to welcome the Christmas season for countless people from northwest Arkansas and surrounding states.
The service will be held in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the JBU campus. All performances are free and open to the public. Doors will open for general seating at 6:30 p.m., and the service will begin promptly at 7 p.m. with an instrumental prelude. Seating is on a first come, first served basis and early arrival is encouraged. In order to preserve the worshipful atmosphere of the Candlelight Services, guests are respectfully requested to consider not bringing young children to the service and to refrain from flash photography.
