Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 2, 2010) — The JBU women’s basketball team crushed Oklahoma Christian 82-58 on Thursday night in Bill George Arena to move to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Senior guard Katie Mangels led all scorers with 21 points and five boards for JBU.

Freshman forward Kortni Kendrick chipped in with 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists. And junior post Chelsea Garrison finished with 10.

For OC (5-2, 1-1 SAC) Ayanna Jackson and Carli Covalt both had 16 points.

After a slow start to the game, JBU began to get rolling and took an 8-6 lead when senior Ashley Taylor drained a three-pointer with 15:42 left in the first half. JBU never looked behind from this point and held a 16 point, 39-23, lead heading in the locker room.

In the second half, JBU continued to knock down shots, while containing the OC offense. With 3:11 left in the game, Kendrick gave JBU their largest lead at 77-49 after draining her third trey of the night. From this point JBU cruised to a 24 point finish.

For the game, JBU shot 56 percent (34-of-61) from the floor including 42 percent (11-of-26) from long distance. OC went 39 percent (22-of-57) from the floor and only hit 19 percent (4-of-21) of their three point attempts. JBU also won the rebounding battle 35-29.
