Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 2, 2010) — The JBU men’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday night after giving up a 79-81 decision to 18th ranked Oklahoma Christian at home in Bill George Arena. The loss drops No. 24 JBU to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Senior Sam Bartlett had a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, and junior Adrian Miller also had 20 points and nine boards to share the lead in JBU’s scoring effort. Sophomore EJ McWoods tossed in 15 points, and Coleson Rakestraw was held to 11 after a 3-for-10 shooting night.

OC (5-2, 1-1 SAC) was led by Jeff Crocker, who finished with 21 points all coming in the second half. Devan White added 13.

Both teams came out strong in the first period, but it was the JBU Eagles that held the slight edge at halftime with a 33-29 lead going into the break.

In the second period, OC started things off on a 19-5 run to go ahead by 10, 48-38, with 14:16 left in the game. JBU responded and cut it back to three, 53-56, with 8:32 left to play.

OC managed to push their lead back to eight with under a minute left to play, but JBU wouldn’t go away and managed to pull within five, 74-79, after a lay-in by McWoods with 11 seconds remaining. On the next possession, JBU fouled and sent Will Reinke to the line where he missed both free-throw attempts.

JBU brought it up and got it to McWoods who was fouled on the three point attempt. McWoods sank three freebies to make it 77-79 with five seconds left, but OC got the ball into Crocker who got fouled and sank both free-throws to provide the cushion needed to hang on for the win.

For the game, JBU shot 49 percent (28-of-57) and OC shot 43 percent (26-of-60). The difference maker came at the free-throw line where OC went 23-of-27 for 85 percent compared to 14-of-21 for 67 percent from JBU.

JBU managed to claim the rebounding edge 36-32, but committed 17 turnovers while forcing only 10.
