Katie Mangels led JBU with 16 points in a 67-63 win over USAO on Saturday afternoon.

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 22, 2011) — After a nearly a week long hiatus from action, the 19th ranked JBU women returned to the win column after knocking off Science of Arts of Okla. 67-63 on Saturday afternoon in Bill George Arena.

The win moves JBU to 15-4 overall and 9-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.  USAO drops to 6-12 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

Katie Mangels had a game-high 16 points and five rebounds, while Chelsea Garrison and Anna Parish added 12 each.  Kortni Kendrick also pitched in with 10 points and three boards.

For USAO, Maggie Oliver and Tiffany Jupin finished with 14 points apiece.  And Aita Gueye added 12 points to go along with eight dishes.

JBU held a 27-26 edge at the break but allowed the Lady Drovers to sprint out to a 40-31 advantage early in the second half.   But the Lady Eagles fought back and managed to pull within three after pair of free throws from Sierra Shipley at the 12:43 mark.

A three pointer from Kendrick with 8:52 left gave JBU a 51-49 lead, but on the next possession, Oliver quickly returned the favor by draining a three of her own to put USAO back ahead.

Another Oliver three with 5:48 remaining in the game, gave USAO a 61-57 cushion, but JBU wouldn’t give up and retook the lead after a three from Kendrick and a steal and lay in from Mangels, which made it 62-61 JBU with 3:03 left.

JBU stepped up their defense during the final three minutes and only allowed one more USAO bucket during that time to claim the four point win.

JBU had a rough shooting night hitting only 38.5 percent (20-of-52) of their attempts for the day.  USAO also had a tough day from the field shooting 34.8 percent (24-of-69) from the floor.  A 46-35 rebounding advantage helped JBU claim the battle of the boards.

Up next, the women head to Southern Nazarene for a makeup game on Monday at 6 p.m. in Bethany, Oklahoma.
