Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 12, 2011) - The JBU women’s basketball team picked up an easy conference victory on Saturday afternoon in Bill George Arena after defeating Mid America Christian (Okla.) 81-61.
With the win, the ladies improve to 18-6 overall and 12-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. MACU, meanwhile, drops to 10-13 overall and 6-11 in SAC play.
Anna Parish led the way for JBU with 17 points, six assists, and two steals, while Chelsea Garrison finished with a double-double of 14 points and ten boards. Katie Mangels tossed in 12 and Emily Ortiz rounded out the double digit effort with 10 for the Lady Eagles.
For MACU, Nicole Wittman finished with 12 and Marcy Robinson added 10.
JBU controlled the tempo from the tip and pulled away to an early 20-8 lead midway through the first half. By halftime, the women held a 38-24 lead, which they continued to build on the second half.
With 14:32 left in the game, Ortiz scored making it 53-32 JBU, but MACU responded with a mini-run to pull within 14 with 10:29 left to play.
JBU stepped up the pressure from this point and increased their margin to as many as 25 before cruising to the 20 point victory.
For the game, JBU shot 33-of-52 from the field for 63.5 percent including 11-of-24 from long range for 45.8 percent. MACU was 23-of-56 for the day for 41.1 percent. JBU dominated the glass with a 37-20 rebounding edge.
Up next, JBU travels to second ranked Oklahoma City on Monday for a makeup game previously scheduled for last Thursday.
