Sheehy coaches men through obstacles, nets respect of peers
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 11, 2011) — Despite not making a return trip to the NAIA National Championship this year, the JBU men’s basketball team reached several milestones during the 2010-2011 season that they should be proud of.
Head coach Clark Sheehy, earned the respect of his colleagues and was awarded Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors. And the men also finished the year out with the best regular season record in school history at 22-8 heading into the SAC tournament.
“He got my vote,” said Oklahoma Christian University head men’s basketball coach Dan Hays. “I thought Clark was able to maximize the potential of his team and he finished the season strong. He lost possibly the best point guard [Abel Galliguez] in the league to injury before the season began and also lost a key player early in the season in [Andrius] Mikutis. But despite that, he and his staff were able to get his guys to fight through those things and get the best out of his team. I respect JBU tremendously.”
The JBU men’s basketball team didn’t receive an at-large bid to the national tournament this year after losing to Wayland Baptist (Texas) in the final regular season game and falling in the first round of the SAC tournament. But the 2011-2012 season is right around the corner, and after a few weeks of rest, the men will be back on the hardwood prepping for next year.
