Men struggle in home opener
Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 9, 2011) — The JBU men’s soccer squad dropped to 0-4 on the year after losing 4-1 to 18th ranked Baker (Kan.) on Friday afternoon, during day one of the Quality Inn JBU Fall Classic.
Baker (5-0) got on the board early when Nick Aguilar scored on a breakaway in the 7th minute of competition. After battling back and forth for most of the half, JBU managed to score the equalizer when freshman forward Martin Gonzalez bent a shot in off the corner kick at the 41:05 mark.
In the second half, BU once again struck early when Tom Lowndes found the back of the net after breaking free from several defenders in the 47th minute. At the 65:58 mark, BU began to widen the margin when Odaine Sinclair put away a scramble in the box to make it 3-1 Wildcats.
Less than five minutes later, Sinclair connected with teammate Ethan Bauer for their final goal of the day.
Baker out shot JBU 19-11 with an 11-6 shots on goal advantage. Sophomore Pablo Garcia had seven saves for JBU.
The Golden Eagles return to competition on Saturday when they face No. 23 Columbia (Mo.) at 4 p.m. In the early match on Friday, Columbia defeated Oklahoma City 1-0 in overtime.
