Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 20, 2011) - The JBU men’s soccer team looks ahead to a huge challenge this Saturday as they welcome the NAIA’s 23rd ranked Drovers of Science and Arts of Okla. on to Alumni Field.
The Golden Eagles, who are currently second in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with a 4-1-1 record, will face a USAO team who is ranked number one in the SAC at 7-0 in conference play. Regular season title implications will be on line.
The JBU men return home boasting a two match win streak over Oklahoma Christian (2-1 2OT) and Mid America Christian (Okla.) 1-0. Their last defeat came against Southern Nazarene (Okla.) 1-0 during homecoming weekend.
USAO brings to Siloam Springs an overall record of 11-3 and a four match win streak. Their last defeat was a 2-1 loss to Lindenwood (Mo.) on October 7.
Key players to keep an eye on will be sophomore defender Scott Parkinson of Huyton, England and sophomore forward Perry Sansford of Colchester, England. Parkinson and Sansford are currently ranked 5th and 7th respectively in points per match in the SAC.
For JBU, freshman Daniel Forry has been a spark of late and is currently ranked 4th in the SAC in overall goals with four. Junior Hunter Bradford and senior Joel Thomas will also be key players to watch as they currently lead the Golden Eagles in the assists column.
The matchup at keeper puts JBU sophomore Pablo Garcia of Guadalajara, Mexico against USAO freshman Bryan Byars of Oklahoma City. Garcia has currently given up five goals in conference play with one shutout, while Byars has allowed only two goals to go along with four shutouts. Overall Byars has collected 11 saves in seven matches played, while Garcia has tallied 34 in five matches.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. but will be preceded by the JBU women (5-7-1, 3-4 SAC) squaring off against the Lady Drovers (11-3, 6-2 SAC) at 1.
