Siloam Springs, Arkansas (December 1, 2011) - by Sidney Van Wyk
The Lady Eagles loss 61-58 to No. 17 Lubbock Christian (Texas) at home in Bill George Arena on Thursday night. The loss drops JBU to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Senior Chelsea Garrison led JBU with 18 points followed by sophomores Jessica Berlin and Sierra Shipley with 12 and nine respectively.
LCU (4-3, 1-0) was led by Emily Atkins with 26 points. Teammates Kelsey Canavan and Nicole Hampton contributed 12 and 10 points respectively.
JBU and LCU began the game trading buckets until the Lady Eagles had a mini run that eventually gave them a 25-18 lead. But LCU responded with a 13-0 run and went into the locker rooms ahead 31-25.
JBU's drought continued into the second half as the Lady Chaps extended their lead to as many as 11 early on.
JBU regrouped, however, and tied things up at 41 after Shipley converted a three point play with 11:26 left in the game. But LCU made a final push and managed to build a seven point lead with one minute to play.
A three from Berlin followed by freethrow make from Garrison helped JBU pull within three, but this would be as close as the Lady Eagles got as LCU held on for the win.
For the game, JBU shot 44.7% (21-47), while holding LCU to 39.6% (21-53). Both teams were equal on the boards with 31 a piece.
The Lady Eagles take the court again on Saturday at home against Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 1 p.m.
