The JBU men’s basketball team defeated Wayland Baptist University (Texas) to bring home an 87-78 win on Saturday afternoon in Bill George Arena. With the win, the men’s overall record improves to 9-1 and 2-1 in the SAC.

Five JBU players finished with double digits in points. Junior Abel Galliguez led JBU with 21 points followed by Andy Garcia with 18. Senior Adrian Miller added 15, Max Hoptgartner added 13 and Junior EJ McWoods added 11. Senior Adrian Miller had a total of 8 rebounds followed by Hoptgartner with 6.

WBU (6-4, 0-2), got 22 points from George Wliliams, followed by Isaiah Jackson with 20 points. TJ Jacobs and Jamie Eisinger also finished with double digits with 11 and 10 points. Eisinger led WBU in assists with 6 followed by Jacobs with 4.

JBU started the game slow allowing WBU to reach a nine point lead (11-2) by the 15:34 mark. From then, JBU picked up the pace and tied it 17-17 at the 9:54 mark. From then, JBU was able to hold the lead against WBU. With just seconds remaining in the first half, senior Thomas Galliguez threw the ball up past the half court line and scored to bring the score to 45-33 going in to halftime.

In the second period, both teams fought hard, but JBU was able to hold the lead. In the final minutes, WBU kept forcing JBU to the line hoping to catch up from tailing by11 points. JBU was able to make their free throws and time ran out with the final score of 87-78.

For the game, JBU shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52), while holding WBU to 48.3 percent (29-of-60).  JBU average from the three point line was 50.0 percent, while WBU shot 43.5 percent (10-of-23).

The men return to Bill George Arena on Monday, Dec. 5 to face Ecclesia College (Ark.) at 7 p.m.
