Lubbock, Texas (January 21, 2012) - The JBU men’s basketball team continued their road domination on Saturday afternoon after defeating Lubbock Christian (Texas) 83-80 in the Rip Griffin Center. The win moves the men to 15-5 overall and 7-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Five Eagles finished in double figures led by Adrian Miller and Abel Galliguez with 16 each. Coleson Rakestraw added 14, and EJ McWoods and Andy Miller tossed in 10 a piece.
For LCU (9-9, 5-6), Rashard Sample finished with 22. Douglas Williams added 16, and Jeff Ayisire put in 13.
After falling behind 20-10 early, JBU got things going and put together a 23-3 run to take a 33-23 lead with 4:29 left in the first period. LCU managed to break the drought, however, and made it a six point game, 38-32, at the half.
In the second half, JBU continued to pour it on and held their largest lead of the night at 62-57 after Miller fed Galliguez for two points with 6:09 left in the game. LCU tried to cut into the deficit and managed to pull within three with under a minute remaining, but JBU wouldn’t let up and thwarted every LCU attempt to extinguish the gap.
Overall, JBU shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the floor, while holding LCU to 49.2 percent (29-of-59). JBU took a two rebound advantage on the glass winning 31-29. Both teams committed 15 turnovers.
Up next for the men is a road match against St. Gregory’s (Okla.) on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Shawnee. Earlier in the year, JBU defeated SGU 81-57 at home.
