Lady Eagles fall to No.1 OCU Stars

The Lady Eagles fell to No.1 Oklahoma City University 56-41, giving JBU a season record of 14-14, 8-12 in conference.
Senior Chelsea Garrison led JBU with nine points followed by junior Sierra Shipley with seven and freshman Lauren Rogers with six. Freshmen Lindsey McHenry and Morgan Ankrom led the team in rebounds with six each followed by Sophomore Kortni Barenberg and Garrison each with five.
For the Stars, sophomore Kayla MacKenzie led with 12 points followed by senior Nicollette Smith and junior Lauren Gober each with 11. Senior Tiffany Goldwire led her team in rebounds with 11 followed by Gober with 7.
The game began with a three pointer by OCU's junior Desiree Jeffries which was soon answered by Barenberg in the paint. The game continued to be back and forth until OCU managed to pull ahead with seven minutes left in the first half. The Stars continued their run until halftime, ending the first half with a 15 point lead.
JBU came into the second half strong, cutting OCu's lead to six points in six minutes. Both teams then experienced a five minute dry spell in which each team only made one basket. The Stars then began to gain momentum with seven minutes left on the clock. Their run continued the rest of the game. The Stars led by 18 points before senior Brittany Hopper scored JBU's last three points of the game with a two pointer outside the paint followed by a freethrow.
JBU suffered 22 turnovers to OCU's 12 and was also out rebounded 47-33. JBU did have a higher field goal percentage with 33 percent to OCU's 28.
The Lady Eagles will take the court again this Thursday in the Bill George Arena against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 6 p.m.
