JBU WOMEN WIN FIRST SAC GAME

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 9, 2003) — John Brown University’s women’s soccer team captured their first ever Sooner Athletic Conference game with a 2-0 victory over St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Brooke Williams broke the scoring deadlock with one minute remaining in the first half following an assist by sophomore Christy Smeal. Senior Stephanie St. Clair’s corner kick set up the final goal by former Rogers High School standout junior Kristen Snyder. William’s goal was her sixth of the season, which leads the Golden Eagles scoring for the year. For the defensive effort, the goalkeeper duo of freshmen Amy Menegaz and Jessica Roberts combined for 5 saves and the shutout.

Following the victory, Coach Joe Thoma said, “it is good to get this win to start our official Sooner Athletic Conference season. Our team is maturing and beginning to know each other’s strengths and this is helping us as we face our competition.”

JBU hosts the Women’s Fall Soccer Classic this weekend, September 12 and 13. Harris Stowe State College, Bacone College and Tabor University round out the field. The Golden Eagles will play Harris Stowe on Friday at 3:00 pm and Tabor on Saturday at 3:00 pm. Friday at 1:00 pm, Bacone will play Tabor and Saturday at 1:00 pm Bacone will face Harris Stowe.
