GOLDEN EAGLES GO 2-0 IN FALL WOMEN’S SOCCER CLASSIC
Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 13, 2003) - The John Brown University Golden Eagles women’s soccer team had an easy time of it on Saturday as they rolled over Tabor College 8-0. Nikki Ganter began the onslaught for the Golden Eagles at the 41:40 mark on an unassisted goal. Brooke Williams would follow one minute later on an assisted goal from sophomore Christie Smeal. The Golden Eagles would add 4 more goals in the first half to build a 6-0 halftime lead. Two goals midway through the second period would increase John Brown University’s lead to 8-0 as they coasted to victory. Williams, Ganter and freshman Tara Hachmeister scored two goals apiece in the winning effort. Freshman goalkeeper had three saves for the Golden Eagles.
“We were pleased to host our first annual women’s soccer classic, and despite the rainy weather, we had good crowds, and the participating teams were able to get in some good competition before their conference season begins” stated Coach Joe Thoma.
In the opening game of Saturday’s double-header Bacone College came from behind to defeat Harrist Stowe College 2-1.
John Brown is 6-0 for the season and 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Golden Eagles will be back in action next Friday and Saturday September 19-20, when they travel to Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas and Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth. The next home game is Saturday September 27, against Wayland Baptist University, a SAC opponent.
