John Brown Soccer Rallies Take Victory

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 19, 2003) — The John Brown University men’s soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the second half to capture a 2-1 win over Bethel College Indiana on Friday. The win came on the opening day of the 21st Annual JBU Fall Classic. Bethel would score first with a goal by Rob Schwartz at the 32:20 minute mark, but that would be the only gift Bethel would receive for the rest of the match. Behind the superb goalkeeping of Pablo Fernandez, and the Golden Eagles stingy defense, the Golden Eagles would shut out Bethel the rest of the way. John Brown would not score until the second half. Kyle Carter and Shawn Wierick would score one goal apiece, but that would be all the Golden Eagle would need to come away with the victory. Fernandez had 15 saves, the most crucial one coming at 1:15 left in the match.

John Brown moves to 4-0-1 on the season and will play Saturday at 3:00. They will take on Friends University, who ended in a 1-1 tie with Oklahoma City in today’s opener. Oklahoma City will play at 1:00 when they will challenge Bethel College at Alumni Field
