JBU WOMEN’S TENNIS LOSES AT EVANGEL

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 22, 2003) — Playing a tough opponent over the weekend at Springfield, Missouri, the JBU Golden Eagle Women’s tennis team fell victim to Evangel University 1-8. JBU’s lone victory came in number 6 singles where Raynisha Robinson defeated Evangel’s Kim Kuligowski 6-2 and 6-2. In other singles action, Jennifer Trenchard was defeated by Jenna Persons 3-6 and 1-6, Aja Martin lost to Brittney Morrison 2-6 and 3-6, Nicole Ediger was bested by Melanie Kissler 4-6 and 2-6, Melanie Regier lost a close match to Laura Stephens 3-6, 6-4 and 5-7, and in another close match Silvy Perkins was defeated by Sara Schoonmaker 6-4, 1-6 and 4-6.

The doubles teams of Trenchard and Martin fell to Evangel 4-8, while Ediger and Regier lost 2-8 and Perkins-Robinson were 0-8 against their opponents.

Coach Robert Walker noted, “We are making improvement in each practice session and in the competitive matches. Evangel was a strong team and our gals fought with a lot of intensity against the stronger team. We continue to look forward to more progress as we wrap up the fall portion of our schedule.”

The Golden Eagles women’s tennis team is now 1-2 on the season and will travel to Clarksville, Arkansas this Saturday to play the University of the Ozarks. The men’s tennis team will join the women for a match with the U of O men’s team.
